An analysis of newly released IRS data by Americans for Tax Reform found that large numbers of taxpayers are fleeing states led by Democrat governors for states led by Republican governors. According to the data, Democrat-led states lost a net of 226,763 taxpayers and their $15.7 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI). That same data shows that Republican-led states gained 220,000 taxpayers, along with their $14.1 billion in AGI.
So where did many of these overtaxed people and their hard-earned dollars flee? 74,094 taxpayers (and their $8.3 billion in AGI) chose Florida, making our state one of the top 5 destinations. In fact, the biggest single migration was from New York to Florida–nearly 18,000 taxpayers–illustrating once again that low taxes and conservative economic policies are key to a thriving state.
